It's been too long since I've shared a sweet jam with you all! So obviously I'll take care of that right here, right now. My main man Mayer Hawthorne has done it again! His new album Man About Town comes out April 8th and I simply cannot wait for it. His 2nd single for the album is Love Like That and I've had it on repeat! Please enjoy

I have a new jam and it's the only thing I want to listen to lately. It just makes me move and groove and feel all the happy feels. I love it. What's that you say? You want to hear it and dance around your room without pants on as well?? Perfect!

happy little tune

A few summers ago a great pal of mine invited me to go to a concert with her. She said the artists were B.O.B., this new guy Bruno Mars, and Jason Mraz. Needless to say, but I'll say it anyway, it was one of the best times of my life! I was already pretty familiar with Jason Mraz but seeing him live was just awesome. My love for his sweet sweet jams only grew.
So of course now that he's dropped a new album, it's my duty to enjoy every minute of it...and I do. One of my particular faves is the little ditty below. It just makes me feel light and happy and sunny. And I dig it.

I've started watching Late Night with Jimmy Fallon(hilarious bee tee dubs) and I'm loving the musical guests that he has on! I mean come on....this guy chose THE ROOTS for his house band. So you know he's got taste.

Now I've never been big on the electronica scene. As a lady who loves to sing I enjoy being able to sing along to my favorite songs so electronica music just doesn't keep my interest for very long. Great for dancing, not so much for singing. So the other day while I was watching my guy Jimmy he introduced a group called Disclosure. 

Let me tell you. It was as if the heavens parted and my ears finally found their electronica soul mate. They performed the song Latch and I've been hooked every since. Their album, Settle, is so dang catchy but Latch in particular has been on repeat for me lately. I just can't get enough. Enjoy!! 

new tunes

A coworker of mine happens to have a very eclectic ear for music which he brings to work with him regularly. Sometimes I can't do anything but scratch my head at the albums he chooses for us all to listen to. Other times I can't seem to get enough of whatever he's got playing. Most recently he's introduced me to Mayer Hawthorne. The first time I heard him I remember asking "Is this Pharrell?" His voice is silky smooth and you can hear the influences of artists like Smokey Robinson and Curtis Mayfield in his music. So obviously, I'm loving it.

This song is from his new EP, Where Does This Door Go. The album has a more modern feel from his older music so I figured I share some of that too!

All his videos are pretty unique as well, which I can appreciate.

in my ear lately

I've been on a bit of a music binge lately. I was starting to feel like my television was on for too long while I'm at home and subway rides needed a little more something to make them more enjoyable. So being the cool kid that I am, I dug out my iPod nano (that's right) and started looking up new albums that I've been wanting to listen to. Thank you Spotify.

A couple curve balls in there I know, but I'm enjoying to eclectic nature of having them randomly play on my iPod. It keeps me guessing and covers every range of my moods. Plus I enjoy that the artists are all actually talented. I can't help but feel like there's a push in the music industry for real artists who make real music. Artists who play their own instruments and write their own lyrics and actually sing their songs live. Don't get me wrong, I do find myself musically entertained by the top 40 still (they can be so damn catchy!!), but listening to these songs makes me feel good on so manner deeper levels than tapping my foot along to the beat. They speak to me. And I really like it. 

If you're reading this and thought to yourseld "oh man! Sarah would really like "this album" too!" By all means suggest it! I love nothing more than swapping great ideas!

subways

It's almost been a month since I've moved here and I'm just starting to feel comfortable riding the subway....to and from work anyway. It's not nearly as daunting as it seemed in the beginning. And with an ipod for tunes it's much more enjoyable. 

The only problem is that my musically driven brain tends to want this scene to happen every time I step on the train:

So I have a confession to make.....I LOVE Jack White's music. Yup, I said it. There something so dark and raw about his music that really captivates me. His first single from his new album Blunderbuss is one such a song so I thought I'd share my love for it with all y'all.

What makes this song even better is that the female vocalist is Ruby Amanfu, who was a contestant on The Sing Off....one of my fave fall shows last year. Her voice is so haunting and soulful so I'm glad to see her again.

lightnin' strikes

Growing up my family used to go camping every summer with some family friends. All weekend the radio in the pavilion would play the oldies radio station. I loved it. One of my particular favorites was Lightnin' Strikes by Lou Christie. The minute I hear that song I immediately think about swimming in Lake Erie, making mountain pies over a fire, playing sneaks at night, and drinking orange creamsicles. On this very snowy day (that's right, inches of snow in April) I could really use some summer and I know I can't be the only one!

Gotta love a man in a jean outfit with a full beard singing falsetto!

separate ways

Ok, so I know it's not a Christmas song but I've been rocking out pretty hard to this lately. The lyrics are great and musically it's so perfect and 80's rock. I just love Journey and I LOVE this song. I suggest listening to it while you're at the gym...it's a great motivator!

This song is pure 80s and pure Whitney and pure awesome! And anyone who doesn't agree doesn't know nothing about nothing! 

How could you NOT want to dance to this song?! Or at least sing REALLY loudly in your car! love it.

Move Me Music

I don't know what it is about this song but it always moves me. The lyrics aren't necessarily happy but the music itself it really what gets me. There's something about an orchestra that gives me goosebumps. Plus this song was used for the iconic ending to Cruel Intentions (if you haven't seen it, WATCH IT!). Enjoy xoxo

Everyone needs a Monday Morning pick-me-up. I usually turn to music for this. Today it's September by Earth Wind and Fire. How can anyone NOT love this song?? I can't help but groove as soon as the intro starts. The words are almost impossible to comprehend but that never stops me from muttering along with how they sound. I love this song and I hope it can bring you a little happy as you go head-to-head with the Monday Madness!
